Lyrical Anatomy: Groove Theory – Keep Tryin’

Keep Tryin’

Groove Theory

By Terrance Moore.

Lift your head to the sky
And keep tryin’
Believe in you
And it will take you higher

I’ve always found the lyrics to this song to be extremely inspirational because they encourage you to step out on faith, follow your heart and pursue your dreams. The fear of failure has left many dreams unfulfilled. Woulda…coulda…shoulda. How many times has that expression been used to describe an unpursued opportunity? The fear of failure can be paralyzing, but the failure to try can lead to a lifetime of regret. As the lyrics state, you have to believe in yourself. You’ll never know how far you can go until you make the effort.

You’ve been
Missin’
Out out on all the chances you’ve been given
Is it something
Within
Holding you back instead of living

What’s holding you back? Fear? Laziness? I’ll be the first to admit I can procrastinate with the best of them. But as I’ve stated in previous articles, my biggest fear is regret, so I’ve made it a point to try everything that has ever interested me. In most cases, I either attended a class or conducted extensive research to find out if it was really for me. I’ve taken an acting course, a course for sports agents, and even played around with music production. Last year I began writing a book for pre-teens and teens, but the combination of writer’s block and my short attention span sent me in another direction. I told you I could procrastinate with the best of them! (I’m halfway done…I’ll revisit it one day…don’t judge me! :-p) The point is I haven’t left anything unexplored, and I’ve learned a lot about myself in the process. It took several years of experimentation to find my niche. Give yourself the opportunity to find yours. You may run into some obstacles along the way, but it won’t always rain on your side of the street. Embrace the rain, for it will enable you to grow as a person.

You have
Sorrows
Everywhere you turn they seem to follow
If you
Let go
Happiness will come to you tomorrow

As cliché as it may sound, the mixture of hard work, determination and the desire to succeed really are all you need to get where you want to be.  Anything worth having is worth working towards. It may not be easy, but as long as you keep pushing forward, you’ll reach your destination. As the lyrics state, “Your day is coming…”

Your day is coming though it seems far
Things will be clear when you love who you are
Nothin’ can stop you as long as you listen to your heart
