Lyrical Legends: Michael Jackson – One Day In Your Life

One Day In Your Life

Michael Jackson

By Terrance Moore

One day in your life…you’ll remember the love you found here
You’ll remember me somehow…though you don’t need me now
I will stay in your heart…and when things fall apart
You’ll remember one day

If you’ve ever ended a relationship only to regret your decision down the road, you may want to prepare yourself before listening to this song. Why? Because it’s going to feel like a punch in the solar plexus! Michael’s delivery of the lyrics is comparable to melodic schoolyard taunting. He doesn’t come off as bitter or resentful like we’re accustomed to hearing. He simply states in his signature soft tone that one day in your life, you’re going to be sick to your stomach when you think of what you had when we were together. Okay, okay…I stretched it a little bit…but still! This song is classic! It’s an anthem for anyone who has been discarded for reasons that were no fault of their own, only to have him/her return attempting to make amends and rekindle the romance.

One day in your life
When you find that you’re always waiting…for a love we used to share
Just call my name and I’ll be there
You’ll remember me somehow

I was fortunate enough to learn at an early age that life is all about the choices we make. One bad decision can lead to a lifetime of regret. And in most cases, we know the right path to take, but it’s quite common for us to make the decision to dance with the devil knowing we’re going to get burned. I was also fortunate enough to learn at an early age that the easiest way to avoid a bad situation is to not put yourself in that situation in the first place.  Some things are beyond our control, but if it’s something you feel you need to hide from your significant other, you may want to opt out of doing it. You stand a better chance of winning the lottery twice in one week than you do recapturing a lost love. They may accept you back into their lives, but it will never be the same.

You’ll remember a place
Someone touching your face
You’ll come back and you’ll look around
